Welcome back to The Data Signal. This month we are looking at the Buy Box - the small box that quietly
decides who actually makes the sale on a shared marketplace listing.
The short story: it is getting harder to hold, and many sellers do not notice until orders drop.

The big picture
A faster-moving target
More sellers, faster repricing and tighter margins have turned the Buy Box into something that can change
many times a day. Losing it can cut a listing's sales sharply even when nothing about the product
itself changed - which is what makes it so easy to miss.
How it works
Price is not everything, but it is a lot
The Buy Box weighs several factors, but in competitive listings it tracks small price differences closely.
A seller a few percent above the current winner often simply does not appear in the box at all - and
therefore does not get the sale.
From our desk
Visibility beats guessing
The sellers who stay ahead are not the ones who guess - they are the ones who can see, each day, who holds
the box and at what price, and react before sales slip. That visibility is the whole game.
A quick check
Pick your five most important listings and check, for each, whether you currently hold the Buy Box and who
is competing for it. If you cannot answer that quickly, that is the visibility gap worth closing first.
